The vast, important project starts with the launch of the brand new NFS Natural Finishing System technology by Surfaces Group: this is the new frontier for natural ceramics, which come to life and are transformed to resemble antique stone.
The Surfaces Group R&D department is constantly at work on the development of leading-edge finishing systems for the ceramics world.
WORLD OF FINISHING is the name chosen for this entire process and this design/operational vocation, which comes to fruition in specific ceramic surface finishing systems to achieve absolutely new, original finishes.
To support this intensive research activity, in Sassuolo Surfaces Group is about to inaugurate a brand new facility for the analysis and development of new solutions. Visitors will be offered a genuine guided experience in the new LAB, by way of the innovative Pilot Plant, where customers will gain an in-depth appreciation of the product research process and the developments implemented using the latest technologies.
The star now in early 2022 is the NFS Natural Finishing System created by Luna Abrasivi and Surfaces Technological Abrasives: this absolute novelty in the ceramics world has led to the industrialisation of an exclusive process, enabling the finishing of ceramic surfaces previously only sold unfinished.
The system provides tiles with a finish similar to natural stone, effects previously obtained using inks and grits on lapped ceramics, creating multiple effects that are not merely graphic but also structural, tactile and substantial.
This is achieved thanks to the state-of-the-art tools in the Flexy Velvet line, which, in synergy with full lapping tools and specific machine setups, create sinuous, uneven surfaces that accurately replicate the wear of antique, almost waxed stone, evoking exactly the same mood.
In particular, the partial shade variation effects produced generate differences between tiles and enhance the “natural”, time-worn impression: each tile will have variations in its finishing that will make it virtually unique, rich, changeable and almost alive.

Through World of Finishes you can customise every type of finish: soft or marked shade variations, different finishes within the same tile, matt texture or extreme smoothness with a degree of gloss that reaches 90, material effects that recreate ancient stone.
Thanks to the skilful dosage of fickerts by Luna Abrasivi and Surfaces T.A. to smooth and satin, mounted on polishing machines, you will be able to design the desired finish and make it a reality. The Pilot Plant is available to the customer; for each desired finish there will be a dedicated tool-software-machine setup recipe to test the process before starting production.
